The programme was superbly facilitated by Louise Hooker from EEN, Business South West. The visit started with a two-day briefing and preparation in Manchester which enabled us to be ‘pitch-ready’ and we received overviews of the business context in China.
In China, after our free afternoon visiting the Temple Heaven we started with briefings from the Science and Innovation Network, British Embassy, UKRI, DIT. Genus PLC described their story of working in China. Then followed 25 2-minute presentations by the UK companies and UK university participants.
Then the real work started with 30-minute match-making meetings with Chinese companies. During the week we made pitches and undertook 1-2-1 matchmaking.
The week was a considerable success for Quantech with several potential commercial opportunities with Chinese companies. Other companies on the programme had considerable successful conversations with several potential clients and distributors. The visit also introduced the group to contrasting regions: Beijing, Dingzhou, Nanjing and Shanghai that offer very different aspects of trading in China.
The interaction between the UK participants was as significant as the Chinese contacts in generating leads, other partners, collaboration, use of products and joint opportunities.
