Thought for Food
Quantech Solutions are delighted to participate at the launch of the Food Innoavtion Network on Monday 24th Oct. The launch takes place at the National AgiFood Innovation Campus at Sand Hutton, York. There is an exciting range of presentations, discussions and exhibitors at the event. The creation of this UK-wide Food Innovation Network was announced by the Prime Minister in July 2015 as part of the Government’s 25 year Food and Farming Plan. Its aim is to simplify, facilitate and enhance the uptake of R&D and technology by industry.
Quantech Solutions will be exhibiting with a selection of tantilising local food nibbles to accompany coffee and lunch. We’d be delighted to discuss innovation in the food value chain with you.
Innovation is different in large and SME companies and it is not to do with size. Richard Thorpe from Leeds University Business School in 2008 presented some wonderful work describing innovation in SMEs (In the “Evolution of business knowledge” edited by Harry Scarborough). If my memory serves me correctly Paul Ellwood, then at Leeds and now at Liverpool summarised and simplified Richard’s discussion as “Easy as Pie”.
This description I have summarised in slides on Slideshare. The concepts described by Richard fit very well with the food sector. At the York Food and Drink Conference on the 28th September Judy Bell of Shepherd’s Purse Cheese and Phil Clayton of Haxby Bakehouse repeatedly picked up on aspects from Richard’s research findings of the actions of successful SME food innovators and food entrepreneurs.
Let’s make the Food Innovation Network a tremendous success – involvement and being involved in an initiative is one of the success factors of successful SME innovators. Quantech Solutions enthusiastically supports the concept of FIN and are keen to discuss opportunities. Please visit us at the event – we’d be delighted to meet you.
